Shimla, June 1: Chief Minister Sukhu of Himachal Pradesh has hailed the recent urban local body and panchayat election results as a testament to the Congress government’s welfare policies and the public’s trust. He asserted that the opposition’s claims are mere political interpretations and do not align with actual electoral data.
While addressing reporters, CM Sukhu noted that elections for various urban local bodies, including municipal councils and corporations, were held in Kullu district. He acknowledged that the Congress party did not succeed in Manali but achieved victories in areas like Kullu, Banjar, and Nirmand. Thus, he argued that former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur’s claims are not factually supported.
Sukhu provided electoral statistics, revealing that Congress-supported candidates won in 29 out of 53 urban local bodies, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 21 seats. Three bodies ended in a tie. He emphasized that these results clearly indicate the public’s continued faith in Congress’s policies, leadership, and developmental initiatives.
Discussing the panchayat elections, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of local relationships, social equations, and neighborhood dynamics. Despite these factors, Congress-supported candidates received significant public backing.
He reported that approximately 2,400 Congress-supported heads of panchayats have emerged victorious, along with over 2,300 deputy heads. This success, he stated, reflects the trust and cooperation of the people of Himachal Pradesh. The residents have endorsed the Congress government’s public welfare schemes and development-oriented mindset. This mandate is a recognition of the government’s commitment to development, transparency, and public welfare.
Targeting the opposition, the Chief Minister remarked that if the BJP attributes its victory in the Mandi Municipal Corporation to a single leader, it should also clarify who succeeded in areas like Nerchowk and Karsog. He called for an impartial evaluation of the election results and respect for the public’s decision.
CM Sukhu expressed gratitude to the aware citizens of the state, assuring that the Congress government will continue to work with dedication and commitment towards the comprehensive development and welfare of Himachal Pradesh.
