Abhishek Banerjee Responds to Sonarpur Attack, Declares Violence Wont Stop Him

Kolkata, June 1: Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Lok Sabha member, has responded for the first time to the attack in Sonarpur, located in the South 24 Parganas district. Breaking his silence on social media, he labeled the incident as an “attack on democracy.”

Banerjee stated that what occurred on Saturday was not merely an assault on an individual but a direct assault on democratic values. In his social media post, he emphasized that this incident reflects the alarming political climate that he believes has been prevalent under BJP rule.

He asserted that intimidation and violence will not deter him from serving the public. Banerjee clarified that this incident has only strengthened his resolve, and he will continue his political battle against the BJP with even greater determination and commitment.

Meanwhile, former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal also expressed his support for Banerjee and the TMC via social media following the incident. In response to Kejriwal’s message, Banerjee thanked all those who showed solidarity during this challenging time.

Additionally, former West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee condemned the incident on Sunday. She accused BJP supporters of attacking Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday. Mamata also claimed that Kalyan Banerjee, the TMC’s chief whip in Lok Sabha, fell victim to a “planned BJP attack” on Sunday.

Mamata Banerjee stated that videos of these incidents are publicly available and highlighted that political violence poses a serious concern for the democratic system.
