Hyderabad, June 1: The political landscape in Telangana has once again heated up with accusations flying back and forth. K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), the executive president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has openly challenged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, stating he should not seek votes until the Congress party fulfills the 420 promises and six guarantees made during the 2023 assembly elections.
Addressing a meeting of key workers from the Cantonment assembly constituency, KTR accused CM Revanth Reddy of attempting to mislead the public once again. He pointed out that Revanth Reddy claimed he would not contest elections if electricity meters were installed on farmers’ pump sets. However, KTR questioned why the Congress government is avoiding the fulfillment of its electoral promises.
KTR insisted that the Chief Minister should publicly announce that he will not seek votes until the Indiramma Housing Scheme provides homes for the poor, all guarantees are implemented, and the promises made during the assembly elections are fulfilled.
He alleged that the government’s proposed separate ‘Farmers Discom’ aims to gradually eliminate the 24-hour free electricity supply currently available to farmers. KTR reminded that while in opposition, Revanth Reddy had stated that three hours of electricity was sufficient for farmers. According to KTR, the current plan seeks to translate that mindset into government policy.
“The true aim of the Farmers Discom is to dismantle the historic 24-hour free electricity scheme initiated by KCR,” KTR stated. He accused the Congress government of trying to disguise its anti-farmer agenda under the guise of benefiting farmers.
KTR claimed that the Congress government is conspiring to weaken one of Telangana’s most significant welfare schemes. He noted that while the government talks about providing free electricity, it simultaneously creates policies that could deprive farmers of uninterrupted power in the future.
Mocking the Chief Minister, KTR remarked that Revanth Reddy’s concern for farmers is as genuine as “ghee in a bottle of turai.” He described the Farmers Discom as a noose around farmers’ necks, asserting its ultimate goal is to completely eliminate free electricity from the agricultural sector.
He urged both farmers and urban citizens to oppose this alleged conspiracy. KTR emphasized that the people of Telangana have realized that Revanth Reddy has repeatedly failed to keep his promises, making it difficult to trust his new announcements.
Referring to former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), KTR highlighted that before the formation of Telangana, the state suffered from severe electricity crises and outages under Congress rule. Industries had to declare power holidays, causing significant distress to farmers. He claimed that KCR transformed the power supply within six months of taking office, ensuring 24-hour uninterrupted electricity across the state.
KTR also noted that KCR was the first leader in independent India to implement a system providing farmers with 24-hour free electricity. He accused the Congress government of attempting to erase that legacy.
Regarding the development of Hyderabad, KTR criticized the Congress government, stating that no significant development has occurred in the capital over the past two and a half years. During the Cantonment by-elections, ministers, particularly Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, promised 6,000 homes, yet not a single home has been delivered to either the Cantonment or Hyderabad residents after two and a half years. KTR accused the Congress government of failing to fulfill its promises.
