
Agartala, June 1: Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal addressed the sixth event of the Prime Minister Street Vendors Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PM Swamitva) scheme in Agartala on Sunday, where he honored beneficiaries. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha was also present at the event.
Manohar Lal emphasized that the PM Swamitva scheme has evolved beyond a mere loan initiative. It has positively impacted the lives of millions of street vendors by enhancing access to formal credit, promoting digital transactions, and strengthening social security.
Describing the scheme as a powerful tool for economic inclusion, he stated, “This initiative empowers vendors with self-employment, self-reliance, and dignity. The primary goal is to provide street vendors with easy and affordable loans, ensure financial inclusion, and make them self-sufficient.”
He added, “We are on a three-day tour covering Mizoram, West Bengal, and Tripura. We have discussed the development of our country and the northeastern region over the past six years.”
Manohar Lal further mentioned that state-wise review meetings are being held concerning issues related to the Ministry of Power and the Ministry of Urban Affairs. This tour includes visits to Mizoram, West Bengal, and now Tripura.
The Union Minister praised the Tripura government for its efforts in urban development, smart city projects, and improvements in power supply. He assured that the central government would provide all possible support to the state. This program is seen as a significant step towards strengthening the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign and integrating small traders into the economic mainstream. Since the launch of the PM Swamitva scheme, millions of street vendors across the country have benefited, including hundreds in Tripura.
During the event, several beneficiaries were honored, including street vendors who have strengthened their livelihoods through the scheme.
Union Minister Manohar Lal is currently on a three-day tour of the northeastern states, reviewing various urban development and power sector projects in Tripura. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Manik Saha welcomed the Union Minister’s visit, stating that various central government schemes are accelerating development in Tripura. Thousands of street vendors in the state have benefited from the PM Swamitva scheme.
