Bhopal, June 1: The first phase of the 2027 Census in Madhya Pradesh has been successfully completed. The fieldwork for house listing and counting concluded on Saturday. This extensive campaign began on May 1 and involved enumerators visiting every village and urban area to collect essential information from households.
During this phase, data was gathered digitally through a mobile app using 33 questions notified by the Government of India. The entire process was based on digital methods, ensuring continuous monitoring of fieldwork through a dedicated portal. This approach enhanced the quality, transparency, and timeliness of the work.
Shilpa Gupta, Secretary of Home and Nodal Officer for Census Work, reported that the initiative was carried out across 55 districts, 425 urban bodies, and 449 tehsils, covering 54,923 villages. More than 144,000 enumerators and supervisors worked in blocks, with an additional 15,000 reservists on standby. The timely completion of the housing count exemplifies excellent administrative coordination and public participation.
All personal information collected during the census will remain confidential under the Census Act of 1948 and the Census Rules of 1990. The data will be used solely for policy-making, development planning, and the effective implementation of welfare programs. The Government of India will release the relevant data after the entire census process is completed.
Notably, prior to this phase, a self-enumeration process took place from April 16 to April 30, during which over 700,000 families enthusiastically participated by submitting their information online, showcasing significant civic engagement.
The second phase of the 2027 Census will take place in February 2027, focusing on collecting social, economic, and demographic information from all family members.
The successful execution of this census campaign owes much to the contributions of district administration, census officials, supervisors, enumerators, and the residents of the state. Additionally, the active role of print, electronic, and digital media in raising awareness and promoting participation significantly bolstered public involvement.
Sanjeev Srivastava, Director of Census Work in Madhya Pradesh, along with Shilpa Gupta, expressed gratitude to all citizens, administrative officials, staff, and media representatives for their support in the timely completion of the first phase of the 2027 Census. They expressed confidence that the residents of the state would continue to provide active and positive cooperation in the upcoming second phase, ensuring the successful completion of this nationally significant initiative.
