Chennai, June 1: The Tamil Nadu government, led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, has announced the launch of a subsidized two-wheeler scheme for eligible ulema and religious workers. Under this initiative, financial assistance of up to ₹50,000 will be provided for the purchase of new vehicles.
The primary aim of this scheme is to enhance the mobility of religious workers, enabling them to fulfill their community and religious duties more effectively.
In a statement released on Sunday, Chennai District Collector Rashmi Siddharth Jagade said that the scheme is being implemented through the Tamil Nadu Ulema and Other Personnel Welfare Board. It is open to various religious workers serving in mosques and Islamic institutions across the state.
Beneficiaries of this scheme include scholars, pre-imams, Arabic teachers, muazzins, mosque staff, and other eligible religious officials actively engaged in religious and community services.
Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 60 and meet the eligibility criteria set by the welfare board. According to the collector, the scheme aims to alleviate transportation challenges faced by religious workers who frequently travel for duties such as leading prayers, conducting religious classes, participating in community events, and providing spiritual guidance in various areas.
Under this program, eligible beneficiaries can receive a subsidy of up to ₹50,000 for the purchase of a new two-wheeler. The government believes that improved access to personal transportation will enable religious workers to reach their destinations more efficiently and enhance their ability to serve local communities.
Interested applicants are advised to obtain the prescribed application form from their respective district backward classes and minority welfare offices. Completed forms, along with all necessary supporting documents, must be submitted by the specified deadline.
The collector stated that applications for this scheme will be accepted until June 30, 2026, and urged eligible ulema and religious workers to take advantage of this opportunity. The subsidized two-wheeler scheme is part of the Tamil Nadu government’s broader welfare measures aimed at supporting various sections of society through targeted assistance programs.
