Vaibhav Suryavanshi Makes History as Youngest Orange Cap Winner in IPL 2026

Ahmedabad, June 1: Indian cricket’s rising star, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, has made history by becoming the youngest player to win the Orange Cap in IPL 2026. At just 15 years and 65 days old, he achieved this remarkable feat.

As an opener for Rajasthan Royals, Suryavanshi scored a total of 776 runs in 16 innings this season. In the final, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill and his teammate Sai Sudharsan could not surpass this figure, securing the Orange Cap for Suryavanshi.

Although Rajasthan Royals’ journey ended in Qualifier-2, Suryavanshi had already accumulated enough runs to remain unchallenged. Gill concluded the tournament with 732 runs, while last season’s Orange Cap winner, Sudharsan, managed only 722 runs.

Virat Kohli finished the season in fourth place with 675 runs, significantly trailing behind Suryavanshi’s record.

With this achievement, Suryavanshi broke another age-related record. Previously, the youngest player to win the Orange Cap was Sai Sudharsan, who earned this honor at 23 years and 231 days during IPL 2025.

Not only did Suryavanshi’s run tally impress, but his playing style also captivated fans throughout the season. The young batsman from Bihar showcased an explosive strike rate of 237.31, dominating bowlers with his aggressive batting.

He hit a record 72 sixes this season, surpassing Chris Gayle’s previous record of 59 sixes in IPL history.

Suryavanshi also achieved several other milestones this season. He became the fastest player in IPL history to reach 1,000 career runs, accomplishing this in just 440 balls, breaking Andre Russell’s record.

In terms of innings, he completed 1,000 runs in only 23 innings, marking the second-fastest record in IPL history, with only Shaun Marsh ahead of him, who achieved this in 21 innings.

Suryavanshi’s season could have been even more historic. He scored a century against Sunrisers Hyderabad but fell short of reaching the three-digit mark three times, with scores of 93, 97, and 96. This prevented him from matching Kohli’s record of four centuries in a single season.

Despite this, Vaibhav Suryavanshi emerged as the biggest discovery and most talked-about player in IPL 2026. His aggressive batting, consistency, and fearless approach made him the tournament’s main attraction. Indian cricket has found a young star whose journey has just begun.
