Delivery Boy and Accomplices Arrested for Fake Robbery in New Delhi

New Delhi, May 11: Police reported on Sunday that a delivery boy working for a chartered accountant and two accomplices were arrested for staging a fake robbery and absconding with ₹6.5 million from the office.

According to North District Deputy Commissioner of Police Raja Banthia, 20-year-old Ayush Mishra, a resident of Burari, along with his two associates, orchestrated the fake robbery on May 4 while he was transporting cash on a motorcycle to make a payment in Rajendra Place.

The accomplices were identified as 28-year-old Ashu and 33-year-old Akash, also from Burari. Police stated that they solved the case within 24 hours, recovering the stolen ₹6.5 million and two motorcycles.

In his initial complaint, Ayush told the police that on May 4, when he arrived at the Shiv Temple in Wazirabad, two boys on a motorcycle snatched his bag of cash and fled. A case was registered at the Wazirabad police station on the same day.

During interrogation, Ayush revealed that he had planned the robbery with his accomplices about 4-5 days prior to the incident.

The DCP explained that according to their plan, Ashu provided Ayush with a motorcycle to carry the cash. Upon receiving the delivery information, Ashu and Akash pursued Ayush on another motorcycle (belonging to Akash’s father), snatched the cash bag, and misled the police by taking a U-turn towards Khajuri.

Later, they divided the stolen money among themselves due to financial difficulties.

During the investigation, police analyzed CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas. They observed Ayush smiling in one clip while the alleged robbers chased him with the cash-filled bag, raising suspicions.

Additionally, it was discovered that the incident occurred around 3:30 PM, but Ayush contacted the police at 6 PM, failing to provide a satisfactory explanation for the time gap.

Moreover, he inconsistently changed his statements during questioning. Eventually, under persistent interrogation, he confessed to conspiring with Ashu and Akash to commit the crime.

Based on Ayush’s information, police recovered ₹250,000. They also arrested his accomplices, Ashu and Akash, with ₹200,000 found at Ashu’s shop and the remaining ₹200,000 at Akash’s home.
