Jaipur, May 13: A bomb threat at the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur on Wednesday sent shockwaves through the facility, alarming patients, staff, and visitors. A police team, along with bomb disposal units, search dogs, and civil defense personnel, quickly arrived on the scene to conduct a thorough search of the hospital premises.
Authorities reported that the bomb threat included a demand for 40 crore rupees. The Abhay Command Center received a threatening message warning that the hospital would be blown up if the money was not paid.
Upon receiving the information, police and various investigative agencies launched a massive security operation at the hospital. Teams from the police, fire department, and search units were deployed, and an intensive search was underway. Security personnel meticulously examined all suspicious objects and areas. Officials tightened security measures in the hospital while investigating the source of the threatening message. After a comprehensive search, no suspicious items were found.
However, this incident highlights the growing challenge of repeated false threats across the state. Dr. Mrinal Joshi, the superintendent of SMS Hospital, stated, “The police control room received a bomb threat against the hospital. Following this, police and other teams searched the premises. Fortunately, no suspicious items were found. The police are investigating the matter.”
In recent months, Rajasthan officials have been on high alert due to a series of bomb threats targeting major public institutions and historical sites. Previously, similar threats had been reported at the Rajasthan Assembly, Rajasthan High Court, schools, airports, and court-collector complexes.
Despite investigations into past cases revealing no explosives, officials are treating every threat with utmost seriousness according to standard security protocols. Jaipur has recorded the highest number of bomb threats in the state.
Official statistics indicate that over 20 such cases were reported in the capital in 2024, with the number rising to 34 in 2025. Jodhpur followed with the second-highest cases, reporting 10 in 2024 and 9 in 2025. Other cities, including Kota, Ajmer, Udaipur, Alwar, and Sri Ganganagar, have also seen a rapid increase in similar threats.
According to police sources, approximately 40 bomb threats have been reported in Rajasthan since January this year. Comparatively, the state recorded around 40 cases in 2024 and 55 in 2025.
Investigators have found that schools, airports, and court-museum complexes have emerged as primary targets for these threats. Officials acknowledged that threats sent via email and social media platforms pose significant technical and cyber investigation challenges for law enforcement agencies.
Despite numerous investigations, officials have yet to identify or apprehend those responsible for issuing threats. Most warnings ultimately prove to be false, but agencies are compelled to respond with extensive security measures to ensure public safety in every incident.
