Mumbai, June 3: A significant incident involving unauthorized drone flights has emerged in the upscale Bandra West area of Mumbai. Reports indicate that over 250 drones were operated without permission, violating a ban issued by the Mumbai Police Commissioner. The drones were reportedly used for video shooting in a local field. Upon receiving a tip-off, Bandra police swiftly intervened and confiscated a large number of drones and related equipment.
According to police, they were alerted to the operation occurring at the Wings Sports Club Ground in Bandra West. Upon arrival, officers observed hundreds of drones flying in the sky. The police immediately halted the drone operations and detained an individual present at the scene.
The detained individual was identified as 45-year-old Gopal Narayan Singh, a resident of Sangam Vihar in South Delhi. Singh informed the police that he works as a manager at Boldson Marketing Private Limited and that the drone shooting was intended for the company’s advertising.
During questioning at the police station, Singh was asked to provide documents related to the permission for drone operations and necessary licenses from the Mumbai Police Commissioner’s office. However, he was unable to present any valid authorization or official documents. The investigation also revealed the involvement of another company official, Sunil Gupta, who was responsible for obtaining the necessary permits. It is alleged that the drone show and shooting commenced without the required approvals.
During the operation, police seized a significant number of high-tech drones, control systems, operating kits, and a laptop. Each confiscated drone is valued at approximately 80,000 rupees. These advanced drones are equipped with modern cameras, intended for video recording and aerial shooting.
Authorities emphasize that flying drones without prior permission in sensitive areas of Mumbai is strictly prohibited for security reasons. Operating a large number of drones not only violates government orders but also poses a serious threat to public safety. The Bandra police have filed a case against Gopal Narayan Singh and Sunil Gupta. However, both were not arrested and were released after being issued notices. The investigation is ongoing.
