Allegations of Forced Disappearances by Pakistani Army in Balochistan

Quetta, June 3: Reports have emerged alleging that Pakistani security forces have forcibly taken at least ten civilians to unknown locations during operations in various districts of Balochistan. Local media reported these claims on Tuesday.

According to sources, a large-scale search operation was conducted by Pakistani security forces in the Killi Mengal area of Nushki district on Monday morning. Eyewitnesses noted that approximately 20 military vehicles surrounded the area and conducted house-to-house searches.

During this operation, seven individuals were reportedly taken into custody and transported to undisclosed locations. The detained individuals have been identified as Shah Khalid, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Niyaz, Noor Mohammad, Mohammad Arif, Alaudin, and Abdul Basit.

In another incident, the Pakistani Frontier Corps (FC) raided a home in the Hajika area of Surab district, detaining two individuals named Ubaidullah and Khuda Bakhsh. Family members claim both are farmers and have been taken to an unknown location, with no information available since their detention.

Additionally, a 25-year-old shopkeeper named Saifur Rahman was allegedly taken into custody on the night of May 25 from the Doctor Colony area of Khuzdar. His family accuses personnel from the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and military intelligence (MI) of arresting him and sending him to an undisclosed location.

Concerns have also risen following separate incidents of kidnapping involving a businessman and a child in Ketch district. Reports indicate that on May 29, armed individuals on motorcycles allegedly kidnapped the minor son of businessman Abdul Haleem in the Roadban area of Tumt tehsil at gunpoint.

Sources suggest that the kidnappers later demanded a hefty ransom from the family, although there has been no official confirmation from either the family or the administration.

Furthermore, on the evening of May 30, reports surfaced of another kidnapping involving businessman Akil Akbar in the Bilnagor area of Dasht, allegedly by armed individuals.

The ongoing incidents of abduction and forced disappearances have heightened security concerns among locals in Balochistan, particularly in the Makran region. Residents express that the law and order situation in the province is continuously deteriorating.
