Bihar Police Dismisses SDPO Amid Corruption Allegations

Patna, April 2: The Bihar Police headquarters has dismissed Gautam Kumar, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Kishanganj, from his duties with immediate effect due to corruption allegations. He has been instructed to report to the police headquarters and is currently placed under the status of “awaiting posting.” Additionally, the headquarters has assigned the extra charge of SDPO for Kishanganj Sadar-2 to another officer.

This action follows a raid conducted by the Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) on March 31, which targeted six locations linked to the officer. During the operation, authorities reportedly uncovered properties worth millions of rupees registered under the names of Gautam Kumar, his wife, mother-in-law, and a female associate. Preliminary investigations suggest that the officer has amassed assets totaling approximately ₹80 crore during his service.

A case was registered at the EOU police station on March 29 under the provisions of the BNS 2023 and the Prevention of Corruption Act. Initial evidence indicates that Gautam Kumar has accumulated substantial wealth. Based on this evidence, EOU teams commenced raids on Tuesday across six locations associated with him in Patna, Purnia, and Kishanganj.

Gautam Kumar joined the police force as a Sub-Inspector in 1994 and was later promoted to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). He has served extensively in the Araria, Kishanganj, and Purnia regions.

The large-scale action by the Economic Offenses Unit has sent shockwaves throughout the police department. Officials have indicated that further investigations are ongoing, and additional actions may be taken based on the findings.

The EOU had also conducted a raid on March 29 in another case, where Vaibhav Kumar was accused of possessing disproportionate assets worth approximately ₹2.41 crore. Investigations revealed that this amount exceeds his known income by about 78.03%, leading to raids at six locations in Saharsa and Muzaffarpur.
