Tragic Drowning Incident Claims Lives of Siblings in Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur, May 24: A heartbreaking incident occurred near the Mehda Temple on the banks of the Saryu River in Gorakhpur on Sunday. Three children who went for a bath near the temple found themselves in distress as they began to drown. Tragically, two of the children, a brother and sister, lost their lives, while a teenage girl was rescued. The village is engulfed in mourning following this tragedy.

According to reports, Prince (11) and Shivani (13), residents of Usri, along with Maya (16) from Mehda, had gone to bathe in the Saryu River. During their swim, the three children unexpectedly ventured into deep waters and began to struggle. Locals indicated that the area where the children drowned has a depth of over 40 feet.

Upon noticing the children in distress, bystanders raised an alarm. Chandra Mal Yadav, known as Chandu, a local youth, bravely jumped into the river without hesitation. He managed to rescue Maya first and then Prince. Both children were rushed to a hospital, where doctors pronounced Prince dead. Maya is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital and is reported to be out of danger.

The search for the third child, Shivani, continued for nearly two hours, and her body was eventually recovered from the river with the help of local divers. She was also taken to the Gorakhpur Community Health Center, where she was declared dead.

It is reported that the deceased siblings, Prince and Shivani, had come to visit their maternal grandparents in Mehda about a week ago after school closed. The family is devastated by the news of this tragic incident.

Upon receiving the information, Police Station Officer Prahlad Singh and Tehsildar Satyendra Maurya arrived at the scene with a police force. The authorities conducted necessary legal procedures and sent the bodies for post-mortem examinations.
