New Delhi, February 21: At the AI Summit held at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, members of the Indian Youth Congress staged a protest by removing their shirts. The BJP condemned the act as shameful, while the Congress party issued its first official statement regarding the demonstration. Congress leader Gurdeep Sapal defended the protest, stating that the youth sometimes express their enthusiasm in passionate ways.

In a conversation with the media, Sapal highlighted the concerns regarding the future of the youth, criticizing the Indo-US deal and questioning its impact on young people’s careers. He noted that today’s youth expressed their anger through this demonstration.

Responding to BJP’s accusations, Sapal recalled that during the Commonwealth Games, the then BJP president Nitin Gadkari climbed barricades to protest, which he deemed a democratic right. He argued that the Youth Congress’s actions were similarly driven by passion.

The Congress party took to the social media platform ‘X’ to state that the Youth Congress members voiced the discontent of the nation’s youth, farmers, and traders through their protest. They accused Prime Minister Modi of undermining the interests of these groups with the trade deal with the United States, labeling it a significant anti-national act. They emphasized the importance of raising voices against such actions, asserting that the Constitution grants citizens the right to protest.

It is noteworthy that the Delhi Police acted against the protesters during the AI Summit, arresting four individuals. The police plan to present the arrested individuals in Patiala House Court.

The police have filed multiple charges against those who protested during the summit, noting that the demonstrators also clashed with law enforcement. Authorities are treating this incident as part of a larger conspiracy and are conducting an investigation.

Initial inquiries revealed that the protesters had intended to display a black umbrella during their demonstration at Bharat Mandapam. However, fearing arrest, they opted for printed T-shirts that could be discreetly concealed under jackets. The police are now investigating the source of these T-shirts. Reports indicate that the Delhi Police have also detained Narsimha Yadav, the National Coordinator of the Youth Congress.
