Telangana CM Assures RTC Employees of Support and Action on Demands

Hyderabad, May 1: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy assured employees of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) on Friday that the state government is committed to fulfilling their demands and protecting their rights.

During a meeting with representatives from RTC unions, he emphasized that the government is taking several steps to strengthen the RTC financially and ensure effective operations across the organization.

Responding positively to the unions’ requests, he announced that salaries for the three-day strike period would be released, and cases filed against employees during the strike would be withdrawn.

The Chief Minister instructed Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and officials to take immediate action regarding salary payments and the withdrawal of cases related to the strike.

According to the Chief Minister’s office, union leaders expressed gratitude towards the CM for initiating steps to resolve their issues. They congratulated him for proposing a work plan aimed at enhancing the organization’s growth, ensuring its survival, maintaining its dignity, and providing excellent services to the public.

CM Revanth Reddy noted that RTC employees had supported the Congress party in forming the government and that the party stood by them during their struggles.

He mentioned that the number of buses has been increased to boost the RTC’s revenue, and new employees have been recruited.

Additionally, he informed union leaders that the government has decided to construct an international bus terminal on 150 acres of land in Shamshabad, with 100 acres already allocated for another terminal in Gajularamaram.

In light of the rising financial burden from diesel buses, the RTC will purchase 1,000 electric buses. Mini buses will also be included in the fleet to establish seamless connectivity with the metro rail network.

The Chief Minister informed the RTC unions that outstanding dues were not collected during the Congress’s previous term. Nevertheless, the government is earnestly working to repay the growing debt.

He stated that work has also begun on pending appointments based on compassion. Furthermore, he assured that decisions regarding financial matters, including the salary revision commission, would be made soon. Unions should discuss among themselves and present practical options to the government for a permanent solution.

The CM cautioned RTC employees against being influenced by opposition politics, as the organization has already suffered significant damage.

He stated, “We are already working together to reduce the burden of interest on the RTC’s outstanding loans, and employees should also contribute to strengthening and maintaining the organization.”

Reassuring that no driver would be dismissed, he emphasized that every RTC employee has a responsibility to help rebuild the organization.

The government has provided financial assistance of ₹8,000 crores to the RTC by implementing the ‘Mahalakshmi Scheme.’
