
Mumbai, May 23: Renowned comedian and singer Sugandha Mishra is celebrated for her impeccable comic timing. However, few know that her initial dream was not to become a comedian. Since childhood, Sugandha aspired to be a prominent classical singer. She began her professional singing career at just 14 years old. Gradually, her journey shifted towards the world of comedy, and today she is a well-known face in the television industry.
Sugandha was born on May 23, 1988, in Jalandhar, Punjab. Her family has deep musical roots, hailing from the famous Indore gharana, with generations dedicated to music. The atmosphere at home was always filled with practice and melodies, which nurtured her passion for music from an early age. Her grandfather, Pandit Shankar Lal Mishra, was a classical music expert who provided her with her initial music education.
From a young age, Sugandha dedicated hours to practicing music. By the age of 14, she was performing professionally on stage. Her voice showcased sweetness and a profound understanding of classical music. Over time, she established her identity in local events and cultural programs.
Alongside her studies, music remained a vital part of her life. She pursued music education at Guru Nanak Dev University and APJ College of Fine Arts. During her college years, she actively participated in various youth festivals, where she met Kapil Sharma. Both were connected through the same college and collaborated on several events. At that time, Sugandha was focused on singing, while Kapil was involved in theater and comedy.
Sugandha moved to Mumbai with dreams of building a singing career. Initially, she worked as a radio jockey at Big FM. Subsequently, she lent her voice to jingles, bhajans, and documentary films, gaining popularity. Later, she participated in the famous singing reality show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa,’ where she impressed judges and audiences alike, reaching the finals.
However, a significant turning point came when she was selected for the auditions of ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge.’ Here, she amazed everyone with her comic timing and mimicry. Gradually, she began to establish her identity as a comedian. Following this, she appeared in popular shows like ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil,’ ‘The Kapil Sharma Show,’ and others, with her character as ‘Vidya Vati’ becoming a fan favorite.
Despite her success in comedy, Sugandha did not distance herself from music. She also contributed her voice to films, with songs featured in movies like ‘Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal’ and ‘Shri.’ Additionally, she continues to participate in various stage shows and live music performances.
On the personal front, Sugandha married comedian Sanket Bhosale in 2021. In 2023, they welcomed their first child, a daughter.
