New Delhi, 29 August (Kiran News). The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Central Government on a petition seeking directions for a timely decision to declare Ram Setu as a national monument. The bench headed by Justice Vikram Nath has directed the Centre to file its response within four weeks.

The petition was filed by former BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy, who stated that he has already submitted a representation to the Central Government but no decision has been taken so far. Subramanian Swamy has raised this matter in the Supreme Court before as well. During earlier hearings, the Central Government had stated that it would not remove Ram Setu and would look for alternative options for the Sethusamudram project.
