Jaipur, May 23: Rajasthan’s Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra announced on Saturday that the state government is fully prepared to conduct Panchayat and urban local body elections, in line with recent directives from the Rajasthan High Court.
Kharra made this statement during his visit to Ajmer, where he laid the foundation stone for a convention center near the Jhalkari Bai Memorial.
He emphasized that the government will provide complete support to the State Election Commission for conducting the elections and assured that there would be no shortage of funds for the development of Ajmer.
Speaking to the media, Kharra stated that the responsibility of implementing the High Court’s decision lies with the State Election Commission. He further mentioned that the government will fulfill all requirements requested by the commission to ensure the smooth conduct of local body elections. The commission will need to study the High Court’s directives and proceed accordingly. The government is fully prepared to hold the elections.
During this visit, Kharra, along with Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, laid the foundation stone for the convention center near the Science Park and Jhalkari Bai Memorial.
Central Minister of State for Agriculture, Bhagirath Choudhary, was also present at the event.
This modern convention center will be equipped with world-class facilities and will have a seating capacity of approximately 1,400 people.
Kharra noted that the facility will feature a high-level cafeteria, ample parking, well-organized internal roads, a modern drainage system, a robust boundary wall, and attractive landscaping, which will elevate Ajmer’s image of modernity and progress.
His comments came a day after the Rajasthan High Court ruled that there should be no indefinite delay in the Panchayat and urban local body elections.
The court extended the deadline for completing the election process to July 31 but clarified that the elections could not be postponed solely due to the pending report from the OBC Commission.
The High Court also instructed the State Election Commission to complete the delimitation of wards and the revision of the voter list for urban local bodies by June 20.
The court warned that any further delays in the revision of the voter list would make officials personally accountable.
