Significant Religious Observances on March 11: Sheetala Ashtami, Kalashtami, and Monthly Krishna Janmashtami

New Delhi, March 10: According to the Hindu calendar, March 11, Wednesday, marks the observance of Sheetala Ashtami (Basoda), Kalashtami, and Monthly Krishna Janmashtami. This day presents a special opportunity for devotees to engage in worship, fasting, and spiritual practices. Each of these occasions involves the reverence of different deities, promoting peace, health, and well-being within families.

Sheetala Ashtami, also known as Basoda, is celebrated on the eighth day of the waning moon after Holi. On this day, devotees worship Goddess Sheetala, who is believed to protect against infectious and skin diseases. The ritual involves offering cold or leftover food, hence the name Basoda. Devotees pray for the health of their families.

Kalashtami is dedicated to Lord Kalabhairav and occurs every month on the eighth day of the waning moon. Followers of Kalabhairav observe fasts, perform rituals, and recite the Bhairav Chalisa. Lord Kalabhairav is regarded as the master of time, the protector of justice, and the destroyer of fear and enemies.

Wednesday also marks the Monthly Krishna Janmashtami, celebrated on the eighth day of the waning moon each month. This observance is distinct from the annual Janmashtami in the month of Bhadrapada. The primary aim of this fast is to continually remember Lord Krishna, reflect on his divine pastimes, and engage in service. Devotees observe fasts, sing devotional songs, and visit temples.
