NSCN (K) Reports Death of Two Cadres in Arunachal Pradesh Encounter

Itanagar, May 13: The NSCN (K) faction, led by Ang Mai, has reported the death of two senior cadres following an alleged shooting by security personnel in the Doimukh Nala area under the Miao Circle of Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh.

In a statement, the NSCN (K) claimed that the incident occurred on Monday night when members of their ‘Pangsau Pass Command Group’ were engaged in activities aimed at fostering peace in the region.

According to the organization, its cadres were also involved in efforts to “reopen the Stilwell International Highway” for the benefit of local residents when they were reportedly subjected to “heavy and unprovoked gunfire” from security forces.

The deceased were identified as self-styled Lieutenant Colonel Umkong, a resident of Nayang village in the Tangshang area, and self-styled Sergeant Enu, from Chithok village in the Leenong area.

Describing the incident as “tragic and extremely distressing,” the NSCN (K) stated that these deaths represent an “irreparable loss” for the families and comrades of the deceased, reflecting the ongoing suffering and sacrifices endured by the Naga people.

The organization condemned the incident, labeling it an “irresponsible and provocative act,” and alleged that the shooting occurred despite their purported commitment to maintaining peace and restraint.

The NSCN (K) further claimed that such incidents could destabilize the “fragile peace and mutual understanding” that has been maintained over time. They warned that the use of force would deepen distrust and undermine efforts towards political dialogue.

The group has also demanded clarification from authorities on whether this alleged action was conducted under the directives of the Indian government or if it was carried out independently by security forces.

They urged the need for measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, reiterating that lasting peace can only be achieved through “mutual respect, responsible conduct, and unwavering commitment to dialogue.”

Meanwhile, reports indicate that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site. There were also claims that NSCN (K) militants were pressuring villagers for extortion payments.

On Monday, security forces launched a significant search operation in the area, which reportedly led to intense gunfire from the insurgents, resulting in a fierce encounter between the security personnel and militants.

The security forces responded, culminating in the reported clash.
