New Delhi, May 12: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta of Delhi has announced a decision to limit the use of government vehicles in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for energy conservation.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Chief Minister Gupta highlighted that Modi has urged citizens to save petrol and diesel and to turn energy conservation into a public movement, especially considering the current global circumstances.
Gupta stated that the Delhi government will reduce the number of vehicles used for official purposes. She emphasized that she, along with her cabinet colleagues, BJP legislators, representatives, and Delhi government officials, will now use the minimum number of vehicles necessary.
Additionally, she mentioned the prioritization of carpooling and public transport.
The Chief Minister remarked that energy conservation is a crucial responsibility tied to national interest, and the Delhi government is fully committed to this cause. She urged Delhi residents to follow the Prime Minister’s call and actively participate in the national efforts for energy conservation.
Gupta encouraged citizens to utilize the metro, buses, and public transport whenever possible, adopt carpooling, and reduce unnecessary reliance on private vehicles. Inspired by the spirit of national priority, she called for collective action to save fuel, work responsibly, and fulfill their duties to the nation during this period of global energy uncertainty and conflict.
It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Modi has advised citizens to save fuel, avoid excessive use of private vehicles, and refrain from unnecessary gold purchases. In light of this advice, several states, including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, have made decisions to reduce the number of vehicles in their convoys.
Officials have also been advised to minimize vehicle usage, with recommendations to conduct meetings virtually.
