
Kolkata, May 13: In a thrilling encounter in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26, Inter Kashi managed to secure a goalless draw against Mohun Bagan Super Giant on Tuesday. Despite dominating possession for most of the match, the ‘Mariners’ failed to breach Inter Kashi’s disciplined defense, leaving both teams with just one point each.
Following this result, Mohun Bagan has accumulated 22 points from 11 matches, tying with East Bengal FC at the top of the points table, but trailing on goal difference. Meanwhile, Inter Kashi remains in 10th place with 12 points. Deepak Tangri of Mohun Bagan SG was awarded ‘Man of the Match’ for his performance at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
The Mariners started the match with great intensity. Midfielder Sahal Abdul Samad tested Inter Kashi’s defense early on, but his two consecutive attempts failed to find the target.
Abhijit Mandal’s team had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the ninth minute, as a brilliant move involving Alfred Planas, Nauris Petkevicius, and Sergio Llamas set up Mohammad Asif for a chance, but his shot went just wide. This effort showcased Inter Kashi’s attacking intent.
Gradually, Mohun Bagan strengthened their control over the ball, with Sahal taking charge in midfield. The home team created a few half-chances through Sahal and Robinho, but they struggled to find clear opportunities against Inter Kashi’s robust and organized defense.
Dimitrios Petratos and Jason Cummings attempted to find their rhythm, but they failed to deliver the finishing touch in crucial moments. Set pieces became Mohun Bagan’s most reliable source for scoring, yet the defensive line led by Narendra Gehlot and David Humans remained steadfast. In the dying moments of the first half, Planas came close to scoring, but his shot sailed over the crossbar. The first half ended goalless, with Mohun Bagan dominating possession but failing to test Inter Kashi’s goalkeeper Shubham Dhas.
Mohun Bagan’s head coach Sergio Lobera made aggressive changes during the halftime break, introducing Liston Colaco and Jamie Maclaren in hopes of gaining the lead. The Mariners increased their tempo, with Dimitri Petratos and Maclaren forming a good partnership in the attacking third.
Petratos attempted to score early in the second half, but the opposing goalkeeper made a crucial save. Colaco and Aldred’s long-range shots also failed to convert into goals. Mohun Bagan continued to seek opportunities, but Inter Kashi’s strong defense, led by Rohit Danu, Sandeep Mandi, and Narendra, effectively closed down spaces in and around the penalty area.
In the 66th minute, a brilliant move unfolded as Manveer Singh passed the ball back to Sahal inside the box, but once again, Inter Kashi thwarted the close-range effort, maintaining their position.
As the match progressed, Inter Kashi’s confidence grew. They introduced new players and maintained possession wisely, disrupting Mohun Bagan’s rhythm. During a counter-attack, Jayesh Rane had a chance to score, but his shot went over the crossbar.
In the final moments of the match, the Mariners made several strong attempts. In the 85th minute, Maclaren came closest to scoring, but Shubham Dhas made an outstanding save to push the ball away. Shortly after, Tom Aldred’s header from a corner kick went wide, leading to growing frustration among the home players.
In stoppage time, Inter Kashi nearly created another opportunity for victory. Rohit Danu surged forward, but Vishal Kaith quickly came off his line to deny the chance.
In the closing moments, Mohun Bagan made a few more attempts through Colaco’s free-kick, but they could not find the winning goal. Ultimately, Inter Kashi’s organized and resilient performance earned them a crucial point, while Mohun Bagan lamented missed opportunities despite holding over 70% possession throughout the match.
