Jaipur, May 13: Following Prime Minister Modi’s appeal to reduce fuel consumption, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has made a significant decision. He has ordered a limit on the number of vehicles in his convoy. The Chief Minister emphasized keeping the number of vehicles to a minimum and advised against the unnecessary use of vehicles under the guise of security.
He instructed all officials and representatives in the state to practice frugality with their vehicles and to use the least number of vehicles possible. Chief Minister Sharma stressed the importance of fuel conservation and urged everyone to avoid unnecessary vehicle usage to save petrol and diesel.
These directives have been issued to the Chief Secretary and all officials and representatives in the state.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also called on residents to join the Prime Minister’s initiative. He urged citizens to reduce fuel consumption and refrain from unnecessary gold purchases. CM Yogi appealed for practical adherence to PM Modi’s call in the state.
During a meeting with the Chief Secretary, DGP, and all department heads, CM Yogi instructed an immediate 50% reduction in the fleet size for ministers and other officials. He called for the removal of unnecessary vehicles from convoys and prioritized the work-from-home culture. Special emphasis was placed on using PNG, metro, public transport, and buses from the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation. Virtual meetings for government gatherings, seminars, and workshops were also encouraged.
He remarked that given the global turmoil, everyone must exercise caution. States need to be prepared to comply with PM Modi’s call. CM Yogi suggested that ministers, MPs, MLAs, and representatives should use public transport at least one day a week and proposed a “No Vehicle Day” each week. This campaign aims to involve government employees, students from schools and colleges, and various segments of society. The Industrial Development Department and IIDC should promote work-from-home initiatives in industrial institutions and large startups. Additionally, advisories will be issued at the state level recommending two work-from-home days for areas with a large workforce.
Seminars, meetings, and workshops by the education department, along with other government meetings, should also be conducted virtually. At least 50% of internal meetings in the state secretariat/directorate should be held online. The use of school buses should be encouraged, and if necessary, transport corporation buses should be linked to schools. To reduce fuel usage during peak hours, office hours may be staggered into different batches.
