New Delhi, May 12: The Vice Chairman of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Kuljeet Singh Chahal, conducted an inspection of various locations prone to flooding early Tuesday morning. He was accompanied by senior officials from the civil, electrical, horticulture, health, and road departments.

Chahal stated that the initiative aims to ensure uninterrupted civic services during the monsoon season and to assess preparations for reducing flooding.

During the inspection, Chahal visited key areas such as Bharti Nagar, Golf Links, Tughlak Lane, and Pandara Road, which are highly susceptible to waterlogging. This visit was intended to review the preparations and preventive measures undertaken by the NDMC.

He directed department heads to ensure timely completion of all monsoon-related tasks and to enhance coordination among departments for immediate action during heavy rainfall.

Chahal reported that the NDMC has completed 100% desilting work by March 31 as part of the first phase, with the second phase expected to be completed by June 15.

Under the first phase, the NDMC has cleaned 7,888 bell mouths, 4,833 gully traps, and 8,913 manholes across Road Divisions One to Five and CP Division, strengthening drainage systems and aiding in flood prevention.

Reiterating the NDMC’s commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Developed India’ and world-class urban management, Chahal also inspected Khan Market at midnight.

During this inspection, he reviewed ongoing cleaning campaigns and redevelopment works. Officials and staff from health, civil, and other relevant departments, along with representatives from Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), were present.

Chahal shared progress reports on various development and infrastructure improvement projects in and around Khan Market, aimed at enhancing civic amenities and providing a better experience for visitors, traders, and shoppers.

He emphasized that Khan Market is one of the capital’s most prominent and frequently visited commercial sites, attracting a large number of locals, tourists, diplomats, and other visitors daily.
