Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Cancels US Trip Following PM Modis Appeal

Gandhinagar, May 13: Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi has canceled his planned trip to the United States. This decision comes in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal urging citizens to refrain from foreign travel for one year as part of a broader initiative promoting economic self-reliance and prudent resource use.

Sanghvi was scheduled to attend the second Gujarati conference organized by the Federation of Gujarati Associations of the USA later this month. However, following the Prime Minister’s appeal, the trip has been called off.

In his appeal, Modi promoted several measures, including prioritizing ‘work from home’ arrangements, reducing the consumption of cooking oil, avoiding foreign travel for a year, minimizing the use of imported goods to boost domestic products, increasing public transport usage to lower petrol and diesel consumption, promoting natural farming by reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers, and postponing gold purchases for a year.

Sanghvi stated, “This decision supports the national appeal for restraint. Citizens should cooperate with the Prime Minister’s call for broader economic self-reliance.”

In a related development, the state’s Health Minister, Praful Panseriya, also supported the Prime Minister’s appeal to save fuel and announced changes to his official security protocol.

He remarked, “As a responsible citizen, I have decided to immediately stop using my ‘pilot car’ security protocol. It will only be used in cases of extreme necessity or emergencies.”

He further emphasized that this appeal highlights the need for responsible resource use and added that when such measures are collectively adopted, they contribute to national economic progress.

He noted, “Every breath of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is dedicated to the upliftment of the nation. Despite India having sufficient fuel reserves amid current global conditions and war-like scenarios, using fuel wisely will directly contribute to the country’s economic progress.”

These developments have emerged following the Prime Minister’s widespread appeal for restraint in consumption and increased emphasis on domestic resources, inspiring many representatives in Gujarat to take similar steps.
