Aadhaar Update

In a major relief for millions of Aadhaar holders, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is preparing to launch a new QR code-based mobile app that will allow users to update their Aadhaar details from the comfort of their homes. With this upcoming app, citizens will no longer need to make multiple visits to Aadhaar centers for updates.

Aadhaar Update

Through this app, users will be able to update key details like address, mobile number, name, and date of birth digitally. The new facility is expected to roll out by November 2025, according to recent reports.

How the New QR Code-Based App Will Work

UIDAI has reportedly developed this app to simplify and secure the Aadhaar update process. The app is based on QR code technology and will enable mobile-to-mobile and app-to-app sharing of Aadhaar details — either full or masked versions — with user consent. This will help reduce the misuse of Aadhaar and give holders greater control over their data.

The app will also eliminate the need for photocopies of Aadhaar for purposes like hotel check-ins, buying a new SIM card, train ticket verifications, and more. Sub-registrars and property registrars will also be able to use this app for verification during property registrations.

So far, around 2,000 out of 1 lakh Aadhaar enrollment and update machines have already been linked to this new system, and UIDAI is working to expand this nationwide.

Integrated Document Verification with Other Databases

The new system will use technology to automatically retrieve verified information from databases such as birth certificates, matriculation certificates, driver’s licenses, passports, PAN cards, PDS, and MNREGA records. There are also plans to integrate electricity bill databases into the system.

This innovation will not only make Aadhaar verification faster and easier but will also prevent the use of fake or duplicate documents.

Children’s Biometrics to Be Updated

The UIDAI is also collaborating with CBSE and other education boards to streamline the process of updating biometric data for children. According to UIDAI rules, biometric updates are required at 5–7 years of age and again between 15–17 years of age. The authority is working on a plan to update Aadhaar records for nearly 18 crore children in the coming years.

Empowering Users and Enhancing Security

Overall, this QR code-based Aadhaar update app is expected to make the entire process much more convenient for users, while also improving data privacy, security, and preventing misuse. It’s a step toward further digital empowerment as India continues to modernize its identification ecosystem.
