New Delhi, May 23: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay is gearing up for an important visit to New Delhi, which is considered significant from both political and administrative perspectives.
Unlike his previous trip to the capital as a party leader concerning the Karur stampede inquiry, this time he will arrive as the Chief Minister. The primary aim of his visit is to strengthen political ties and secure economic assistance for the state.
Earlier, Vijay appeared before the CBI regarding the investigation into the stampede incident that occurred during a public gathering on September 27 last year in Karur, which tragically resulted in the deaths of 41 people.
However, this visit is expected to focus on entirely different matters. Sources indicate that Chief Minister Vijay plans to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge.
It has been reported that a request for an appointment with the Prime Minister has already been made through the Prime Minister’s Office. However, due to the Prime Minister’s busy schedule, the meeting has yet to be confirmed.
According to officials, the Chief Minister could depart for Delhi as soon as he receives confirmation of the meeting. In addition to political discussions, Vijay will also bring a comprehensive economic agenda to address the state’s financial challenges.
Sources reveal that the Chief Minister recently held a meeting with senior finance officials to review the state’s financial situation and discuss measures to alleviate economic pressures.
During this meeting, officials reportedly informed Vijay that enhancing communication with the central government and securing additional financial assistance would be the most practical solution at this time. While Vijay also explored options for independently raising resources, officials noted that immediate alternative measures would be challenging due to the upcoming preparations for the 2026-27 state budget.
Currently, officials are said to be compiling a list of demands and financial proposals to be presented during the meeting with the Prime Minister. Additionally, political sources indicate that Vijay has also had a phone conversation with Rahul Gandhi regarding the proposed visit to Delhi.
