Chaos Erupts at Wedding in Azamgarh as Young Woman Claims Groom is Her Fiancé

Azamgarh, May 23: A wedding ceremony in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, turned chaotic on Friday when a young woman arrived with police, claiming the groom was her fiancé. Her unexpected presence caused a commotion, leading to a heated dispute between both families that escalated into stone-throwing and panic.

The incident occurred in the Patwadh Kautuk Harijan Basti area of the Bilariyaganj police station jurisdiction. Reports indicate that the wedding was arranged between Guddu’s daughter and Brijesh Kumar, son of Gudri, from the Garhwal village in the Mubarakpur police area. The wedding festivities were in full swing when the woman from Bagahi village in the Raunapar area claimed to have a prior relationship with the groom.

As tensions rose, guests began throwing stones at the woman and the police team, creating a scene of chaos. To manage the situation, police escorted the woman to safety and informed the Bilariyaganj police station. By the time additional police forces arrived, the groom’s party had already fled the scene. Reports suggest that the couple left shortly after the ‘sindoor’ ceremony.

The bride’s family reported significant financial losses due to the disruption, including expenses for food, decorations, and other preparations. Additionally, two women from the family fell ill from the shock and required medical attention. According to police, the conflict arose from a romantic relationship that led to a dispute over the wedding.

Anil Kumar Verma, the area officer, stated that a thorough investigation is underway and that police forces have been deployed to maintain order. Five individuals have been taken into custody for questioning, and necessary legal actions are being pursued.
