NIA Files Charges Against Inter-State Arms Smuggler in Patna Court

New Delhi, May 8: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed charges against an arms and ammunition smuggler in a special court in Patna. This case involves inter-state illegal ammunition trafficking spanning Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. An official disclosed this information on Thursday.

The accused, Parvez Alam, is the ninth individual implicated in case RC-01/25/NIA/PAT. Charges have been filed against him under various sections of the BNS and Arms Act in the NIA special court located in Patna, Bihar. So far, a total of 11 individuals have been arrested in this case. Eight of them, who were charged in February of this year, remain in judicial custody while their trial is ongoing.

The NIA reported that Parvez has multiple weapon-related cases registered against him since 2013. He was arrested based on a production warrant linked to a significant gang involved in smuggling prohibited bore ammunition.

This case originally stemmed from a local police report in Bihar last July, which led to the seizure of a large quantity of illegal ammunition and the arrest of four individuals. After taking over the investigation in August 2025, the NIA discovered that the syndicate operated on three levels: primary suppliers, main intermediaries, and retail vendors.

As a result of searches and investigations conducted by the agency in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, key accused individuals were apprehended at each level.

In a separate case, on May 5, the NIA filed charges against three individuals linked to the banned ISIS terrorist organization in a special court in Ahmedabad. They are accused of conspiring to commit jihadist biological terrorism aimed at poisoning innocent people in public places.

The main accused, Syed Ahmed Mohiuddin from Hyderabad, along with co-accused Azad and Mohammad Suhail from Uttar Pradesh, face charges under the UAPA, BNS, and Arms Act in the NIA special court in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Working under the guidance of foreign handlers connected to ISIS, the accused coordinated efforts to recruit vulnerable youths. These individuals were radicalized to support jihad and spread terror through illegal weapons and biological terrorism.

They planned to use ‘ricin,’ a potent biological toxin naturally found in castor bean seeds, to execute ISIS’s nefarious agenda. Ricin is listed in the Chemical Weapons Convention schedule.

This case was initially registered by Gujarat’s ATS following the arrest of Mohiuddin in November 2025. He was apprehended at a toll plaza with illegal weapons, a 4-liter bottle of castor oil, and other incriminating materials found in his vehicle.
