
Hoshiarpur, May 16: Panic erupted in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, on Friday when a young child fell into a borewell while playing. The incident occurred around 4 PM, prompting immediate responses from teams of the NDRF, SDRF, Punjab Police, and local administrative officials. The child’s family was visibly anxious about his safety.
According to reports, after nearly nine hours of intense efforts, the child was safely rescued from the borewell around 12:40 AM. The family breathed a sigh of relief. He was promptly taken to a hospital for treatment, where he is currently under medical supervision.
Hoshiarpur’s Deputy Commissioner, Ashika Jain, confirmed that the incident took place around 4 PM on Friday. Local administrative officials arrived at the scene immediately upon receiving the news. She praised the commendable contributions of the NDRF, district administration, police, and other departments during the rescue operation, which lasted nearly nine hours.
The child, identified as Gurkaran, was playing near his home when he slipped and fell into the deep borewell. Rescue teams arrived swiftly and began a careful operation under the supervision of senior officials. Local residents expressed gratitude towards the rescue teams, noting that the timely initiation of the operation prevented a major tragedy.
Punjab government minister Dr. Ravjot Singh was also present at the scene during the rescue operation. He shared on social media platform X, “A deeply concerning incident occurred in our constituency’s village, ‘Chak Samana Kulliyan,’ where a three-year-old child fell into a borewell. However, thanks to divine grace and the promptness of the administration, the child has been safely rescued. He has been admitted to the Civil Hospital in Hoshiarpur. I have personally instructed doctors and relevant officials to ensure that there is no negligence in the child’s treatment and that he receives the best healthcare facilities. We pray for his swift recovery. I express my gratitude to everyone and the rescue teams who supported during this challenging time.”
