
New Delhi, May 29: Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing will embark on an official visit to India from May 30 to June 3, following an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He will kick off his trip on Saturday in Bodh Gaya.
According to information shared by the Ministry of External Affairs, President Hlaing will engage in discussions with PM Modi on June 1 to strengthen ties between the two nations. This visit marks President Hlaing’s first trip to India since taking office.
During his stay, President Hlaing will also participate in a business forum. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including several cabinet ministers, senior officials, and business leaders.
On June 2, he will travel to Mumbai for discussions and site visits with business and industry representatives. The Ministry of External Affairs stated, “Myanmar is at the confluence of India’s Neighborhood First, Act East, and Ocean policies. President Hlaing’s official visit to India is expected to enhance various aspects of the relationship between the two countries.”
Earlier this month, Vietnam’s President To Lam also began his visit to India from Bodh Gaya, where he prayed at the Mahabodhi Temple, the site where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment.
U Min Aung Hlaing took the oath of office as president in April this year. On that occasion, Minister of State for External Affairs Kiren Rijiju visited Myanmar to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
Rijiju also met with U Min Aung Hlaing on April 10, delivering a congratulatory letter from PM Modi on his assumption of the presidency. He reiterated India’s commitment to enhancing cooperation under its “Neighborhood First,” “Act East,” and “Ocean” policies for the benefit of the people of Myanmar.
After the meeting, Rijiju posted on X, “Today, I met U Min Aung Hlaing to deliver a congratulatory letter from Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his assumption of the presidency of Myanmar.”
