Fake Doctor Arrested in Maharashtra with Cash and Medicines Seized

Mumbai, May 28: A significant case of medical fraud has emerged from Maharashtra’s Daund, where a fake doctor was arrested for practicing illegally. Police reported on Thursday that they seized medicines, injections, and cash amounting to ₹6.54 lakh from the accused.

The suspect has been identified as Omprakash Bansilal Swarnkar. He operated an illegal clinic in the Akhadewasti area of Kasurdi village without any valid medical degree, registration with the Maharashtra Medical Council, or a license to sell medicines.

According to police, the accused hails from Sadar Bazaar in the Hurda tehsil of Bhilwara district, Rajasthan. The illegal operation was uncovered during a police raid on the clinic. Various allopathic medicines, injections, syringes, suspicious unlabeled liquid-filled bottles, and cash were recovered at the scene.

The seized items included medicines from companies like Cipla, Intas, and Leeford, along with 381 suspicious bottles, syringes, and ₹85,100 in cash. Additionally, a Honda City car parked outside the clinic, which contained extra stock of medicines, was also confiscated.

Based on a complaint filed by Dr. Ashish Shankar Shirase from the primary health center in Khambgaon, the accused has been charged under Section 319(2) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) 2023 and Sections 33(1) and 33(2) of the Medical Practice Act, 1961.

Initial investigations revealed that the accused misled people by practicing medicine illegally, putting patients’ lives at risk. The Yavat police are conducting further inquiries.

Previously, three doctors working at the ‘Sanjeevani Clinic’ under the National Health Mission were arrested by police in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh. On May 16, the Kotwali police station received an investigation report from the office of the Chief Medical and Health Officer.

The report indicated that Kumar Sachin Yadav from Gwalior and Rajpal Gaur from Sehore submitted fake and fabricated MBBS degrees, medical council registration certificates, and other educational documents to secure positions at the Sanjeevani Clinic located in Subhash Colony, Damoh.
