Savitri Thakur Advocates for Return of Maa Vagdeviji Statue from London

New Delhi, May 28: Savitri Thakur, Member of Parliament and Union Minister from Dhar, met with Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, in New Delhi. During their discussion, Thakur urged the government to bring back the statue of Maa Vagdeviji from the London Museum and reinstall it at the historic Bhojshala in Dhar. The central government assured efforts to reclaim India’s cultural heritage and agreed to visit Dhar in June.

Thakur emphasized that her request to Minister Shekhawat was not merely about a statue; it represents a significant issue tied to Indian cultural heritage and faith. She noted that efforts to address this matter have been ongoing for a long time. Discussions had taken place even before 2014, and various attempts were made at different levels. She believes it is crucial to advance this issue seriously once again.

She also mentioned that she has discussed this matter with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, and the state government is actively working in this direction. Both the central and state governments are collaborating to restore this cultural heritage.

During the meeting with Minister Shekhawat, she received assurances that the government is fully committed to reclaiming India’s cultural heritage. It was also decided that he would visit Dhar in June to gain a closer understanding of issues related to Bhojshala.

Thakur pointed out that based on court rulings and historical facts, Bhojshala is regarded as an important religious and cultural site. Therefore, the return of the Maa Vagdeviji statue is a matter deeply connected to people’s sentiments.

She added that if the statue is returned, it should not only be installed at Bhojshala but also be part of a grand cultural complex to enhance understanding of Indian culture for visitors from both India and abroad.
