
Ranchi, May 29: In a significant operation against narcotics, police in Jharkhand’s Chatra district arrested a trafficker and seized approximately ₹15 lakhs worth of brown sugar. The operation took place in the Bhurkunda jungle area along Chatra Road, under the jurisdiction of the Itkhori police station.
DSP Sunil Kumar Singh reported that Superintendent of Police Animesh Naithani received a tip-off regarding the sale and purchase of brown sugar in the area. Taking this information seriously, a special raid team was formed.
Upon arrival at the scene, the police surrounded the area and apprehended a suspicious individual. During the search, they discovered 30.31 grams of suspected brown sugar, neatly packed in a black plastic bag. Additionally, a keypad mobile phone was seized, which was allegedly used for communication within the trafficking network.
The arrested suspect has been identified as Ashok Paswan, a resident of Mayadih village in the Giddhor police station area. The police have registered a case against him under the NDPS Act at the Itkhori police station and have initiated further action.
DSP Sunil Kumar Singh emphasized that the district is actively pursuing individuals involved in drug trafficking. He warned that the police would not only focus on arrests but would also initiate legal procedures to confiscate assets acquired through illegal activities. This operation involved Itkhori police station chief Abhishek Kumar Singh, ASI Rajesh Ram, driver Ravikant Singh, and armed forces personnel.
