Korba, September 5 (Kiran News) — Rising water levels in the Minimata Bango Dam (Hasdeo Bango Dam), Chhattisgarh’s largest reservoir, have prompted authorities to increase the discharge of water into the Hasdeo river. The dam’s level has stabilized at 358.11 metres, officials said.

On Thursday night at 10:30 pm, the opening of gates No. 4 and 8 was increased by 50 cm each. At present, gates No. 5 and 6 are open by 1.50 metres, gates No. 4 and 8 by 1.00 metre, and gates No. 3 and 9 by 0.50 metres each.
In total, 34,988 cusecs of water is being released through the spillway gates, while the hydroelectric power plant is discharging an additional 9,000 cusecs, bringing the total outflow to 43,988 cusecs.
Earlier, on Thursday morning at 5:00 am, two additional gates (No. 3 and 9) had been opened to regulate the rising water level. An alert was issued in downstream areas before the water release.
Executive Engineer Dharmendra Nikhra said that the dam’s water level is being closely monitored and gates will be adjusted as required. He also advised residents in low-lying areas to move to safer locations as a precaution.
