Mumbai, April 27: Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, met with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman on Sunday. The discussion focused on bilateral relations, regional developments, and ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve regional crises.
According to Iran’s Press TV, Araghchi shared Iran’s perspective on recent events in West Asia, particularly the situation following the joint attacks by Israel and the United States. He praised Oman’s dialogue and mediation efforts aimed at enhancing peace and stability in the region.
Sultan Haitham emphasized Oman’s commitment to finding long-lasting political solutions through dialogue, aiming to mitigate the impact of crises on ordinary people. He stressed that issues should be resolved through conversation and diplomacy.
Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, stated on the social media platform X that Araghchi’s visit is an official trip to Oman and marks his first regional visit following the recent US-Israel attacks. He noted that Iran values its relationships with Gulf countries and is committed to strengthening trust and cooperation.
As reported by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Araghchi’s visit is part of a tour of three countries. After Oman, he will travel to Russia to discuss regional conditions and ongoing conflicts.
Araghchi had arrived in Islamabad on Friday. Initially, it was announced that Jared Kushner, son-in-law of former President Trump, and his special representative Steve Witkoff would visit, with Vice President J.D. Vance possibly joining if necessary. However, Iran has made it clear that it will not engage in direct talks with the US.
Baghaei confirmed that no meeting between Iran and the US is scheduled, and Iran will communicate its stance through Pakistan.
Former President Donald Trump stated on social media, “We hold all the cards; they have nothing. If they want to talk, they just need to call us.” He also mentioned that a lot of time is wasted in travel and that there is considerable confusion and internal conflict within Iran’s leadership.
