5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Liuzhou, Southern China

Beijing, May 18: A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck the Liuzhou area in the Liunan District of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China. The quake’s epicenter was located at a depth of 8 kilometers.

The Chinese State Council’s earthquake response and relief command office, along with the Ministry of Emergency Management, activated a four-tier emergency response and dispatched a task force to the affected area.

By 4 PM, reports indicated that 13 buildings had collapsed, four individuals were hospitalized with injuries, and three people were reported missing. Approximately 7,000 residents were relocated. Despite the earthquake’s impact, telecommunications, water, gas, and electricity supplies, as well as traffic, were functioning normally in the affected region.

Search and rescue operations for the missing individuals are currently underway.
