Srinagar, May 11: PDP leader Iltija Mufti has launched a significant attack on Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing him of promoting the BJP’s agenda. She claims that Abdullah is actively collaborating with the BJP and playing along with their strategies.
In response to Abdullah’s statements, Mufti expressed her disappointment, stating, “It is unfortunate that our Chief Minister takes a U-turn on every issue. He makes one statement in the morning, and when exposed, he makes another statement in the evening. Omar Abdullah is promoting a drug culture in Jammu and Kashmir.”
Mufti further criticized Abdullah’s remarks regarding drug and alcohol distribution, highlighting the contradiction in the government’s actions. “He claims that we do not force anyone to take drugs or alcohol, yet bulldozers are being used on many homes in the name of a drug-free campaign. If we are not forcing anyone, then why are bulldozers being deployed?” she questioned.
She also addressed the religious angle in Abdullah’s comments, stating, “No one promotes alcohol and drugs in their religion. States like Gujarat and Bihar, which have a Hindu majority, have implemented alcohol bans. In Jammu and Kashmir, where Muslims are in the majority, alcohol is considered haram. Yet, Omar insists he will not impose a ban on alcohol.”
Mufti raised a critical question regarding the National Conference’s majority in the assembly, asking why the government is reluctant to enforce an alcohol ban in the state.
On the controversy surrounding the Urdu language, Mufti stated, “The Chief Minister has issued an order removing the requirement of Urdu in job applications. It is extremely unfortunate that he is actively promoting the BJP’s agenda and playing along with them, whether it is the Waqf Bill or the removal of Urdu, which is essential to our identity. Urdu is the collective language of many people in Jammu and Kashmir. Omar Abdullah is failing to deliver on the promises he made to the people.”
