
Bangalore, May 16: A devastating road accident occurred in Karnataka’s Koppal on Friday, resulting in the deaths of six individuals, including a one-year-old child. The collision involved a truck and a tractor on National Highway 50, near the border of Koppal and Vijayapura districts. Two others are reported to be in critical condition.
According to police reports, the impact of the crash was so severe that the tractor fell off a bridge. The deceased have been identified as 25-year-old Gouramma, 20-year-old Geeta, 18-year-old Mahantesh, 30-year-old Manjamma, 35-year-old Kenchappa, and one-year-old Bharat. All victims were relatives and residents of Ballari and Vijayanagar districts.
They were en route to visit the famous Huligemma Temple located in Hulagi village, Koppal district. The injured individuals have been admitted to Koppal District Hospital, and their identities include Ajay, Chetan, Maya, Hanumamma, Anjali, Ratnamma, among others.
After visiting the injured, Congress MP E. Tukaram spoke to reporters, stating that he had discussed the incident with the Chief Minister. CM Siddaramaiah has agreed to provide a compensation of 500,000 rupees to the families of the deceased. He also mentioned that he would cover the medical expenses for the injured.
BJP state president and MLA B. Y. Vijayendra expressed his condolences regarding the incident, stating that it is indeed a tragic day for the state. He expressed deep shock upon hearing about the horrific accident on the national highway in Koppal district.
