IPL 2026: LSG and CSK Players Pay Tribute with Black Armbands

Lucknow, May 16: In a poignant moment before the match at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday evening, players from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) observed a minute of silence alongside match officials. Both teams wore black armbands during this tribute.

This gesture was in response to the devastating storm and heavy rains that struck Uttar Pradesh on May 13, resulting in over 100 fatalities across the state. The players honored the souls of those who lost their lives unexpectedly by participating in this moment of silence and donning black armbands during the match.

Cricket is often referred to as a gentleman’s game, and this act by the players once again showcased the sport’s compassionate spirit.

In terms of the match, CSK batted first after losing the toss, scoring 187 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. LSG now needs 188 runs to secure a victory at home. Karthik Sharma played a remarkable innings for CSK, scoring 71 runs off 42 balls, including 5 sixes and 6 fours. This marks his second half-century of the season. Dewald Brevis contributed 25 runs off 16 balls, while Samson, Gaikwad, and Patel scored 20, 9, and 6 runs respectively. Shivam Dube remained unbeaten at 32 runs off 16 balls, and Prashant Veer added 13 runs off 10 balls.

For LSG, Akash Maharaj Singh excelled with the ball, taking 3 wickets for just 26 runs in 4 overs. He dismissed key CSK players, including Samson, Gaikwad, and Urvil Patel, shaking up CSK’s top order. Mohammad Shami and Shahbaz Ahmed each took one wicket.
