Mumbai, May 16: The Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, announced the release of ₹8,368 crores for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) scheme in Maharashtra during a beneficiary conference held at the Sainik School Ground in Satara. The event, which took place on Friday, marked the inauguration of home entries for 500,000 completed rural houses. Chouhan handed over keys to five beneficiaries and announced several key decisions aimed at accelerating rural development in Maharashtra. Present at the event were Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Jaykumar Gore, and other prominent officials.
In his address, Minister Chouhan emphasized the central government’s commitment under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership to ensure that no poor family lives in a temporary house and that every eligible family receives a dignified permanent roof over their heads. He praised Maharashtra for its remarkable implementation of the PMAY-G scheme, completing 500,000 homes in record time, showcasing excellent governance, sensitivity, and results-oriented administration.
Chouhan announced the central financial assistance of ₹8,368.50 crores for the fiscal year 2026-27 under the PMAY-G scheme. He stated that this funding would accelerate the housing construction campaign for rural poor in the state and strengthen the resolve for a homeless-free rural Maharashtra.
He also mentioned that eligible families who have not yet been included will have opportunities as surveys and verification processes are completed, ensuring additional housing as needed. The central government aims not just to build houses but to enhance the overall rural living standards by providing electricity, water, sanitation, and a dignified life.
Additionally, Minister Chouhan approved 35 road projects worth ₹122.98 crores under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-4, benefiting 35 rural settlements in the state. These projects, spanning 95.99 kilometers, will improve access to education, health services, markets, and other essential services.
While honoring districts, units, and officials for outstanding performance under the ‘Maha Awas Abhiyan,’ Chouhan stated that when political will, administrative efficiency, and a sense of public welfare come together, development campaigns turn into mass movements. He noted that Maharashtra’s pace and commitment in the rural housing sector serve as an inspiration for other states.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted that with the support of Prime Minister Modi and Minister Chouhan, Maharashtra has received approval for a record 3 million homes, completing 500,000 houses in record time for beneficiaries. He mentioned that the state government is enhancing housing quality, providing electricity through solar energy, and assisting landless eligible families, transforming this campaign into a comprehensive social security model.
Fadnavis reiterated that Maharashtra’s goal is to create a homeless-free state, with plans to provide housing for more families in the future.
