Agartala, May 16: Tripura’s Energy Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced on Friday that the state is rapidly advancing in solar energy expansion. He stated that all district offices across the eight districts will be powered by solar energy by the end of this month.
The announcement came during the 29th governing body meeting of the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency, which Nath chaired. Speaking to the media afterward, he noted that all eight district chairpersons are members of the agency’s governing body and participated in the meeting alongside the Energy Department Secretary and the agency’s Director.
Nath, who also oversees the Agriculture and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, mentioned that the committee reviewed progress on decisions made in the previous meeting and prepared plans for the next phase of work. He emphasized a strong focus on the electricity sector and renewable energy initiatives. Prime Minister Modi highlighted the success of the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency and the state’s solar energy projects during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program.
The minister pointed out that the Prime Minister specifically mentioned the Riang tribal areas of the state, where solar microgrid systems are used to supply electricity. Nath praised efforts to deliver power to remote areas through these solar microgrids. Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan scheme, Tripura currently ranks at the top in the country, and the state is committed to maintaining this position. The government is actively working to support farmers through this initiative, ensuring that no arable land goes unused.
As an example of the scheme’s impact, the minister shared that a farmer informed him that due to the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan project, he is now successfully cultivating various vegetables with assured irrigation and electricity support.
Nath further revealed that the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency has completed the installation of 5,000 solar pumps, aiming for a target of 10,000 under the scheme.
