Prime Minister Narendra Modi has firmly refuted these claims, labeling them as completely baseless. He clarified that there is no truth to the reports and that the question of imposing any restrictions on foreign travel does not arise.
In a post on X, PM Modi referenced the media reports, stating, “This is entirely false. There is no truth in it. There is no question of imposing such restrictions on foreign travel. We are fully committed to improving the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ and ‘Ease of Living’ for our citizens.”
The media report claimed that discussions regarding the tax or surcharge on foreign travel were taking place at the highest levels. It stated that any revenue generated would go directly to the central government and would not be part of the pool shared with states. The purpose of this tax or surcharge was reportedly to mitigate the financial impacts related to war.
