Lucknow, May 16: In the IPL 2026 season opener, Aakash Maharaj Singh made a striking debut for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The left-arm fast bowler showcased his skills by taking three wickets for just 26 runs in four overs. Celebrating his wickets, Aakash was seen pulling out a note from his pocket.
After CSK’s innings, Aakash shared insights about the note. “My belief has always been simple—if your work ethic and mindset are strong, you can dominate. I think that motivates me. There’s no deep story behind it. I wrote something like, ‘Akki knows how to take wickets in T20 cricket.’ It keeps me motivated during the game. Sometimes these things work, sometimes they don’t, but if something helps me stay motivated and perform better, I’m ready to do it. That’s what matters most to me.”
He added, “I know I express myself well, and people tell me the same. Honestly, it’s about the environment you create around you. I spend time understanding how champions think and work hard.”
The young bowler emphasized that his approach is based on clarity and aggression, aiming to think ahead of the batsman. “My mindset is always about taking big wickets because when you come into the IPL, you shouldn’t just play—you should dominate. That mindset is crucial. If you don’t think this way, in a league where batting is getting stronger every day, you will always lag behind.”
He continued, “You need to stay ahead in terms of skill, but the mental aspect is equally important for me. If you don’t dominate mentally in this game, you can’t progress consistently. Therefore, my approach is always to be dominant, and honestly, the name of the batter doesn’t matter much to me.”
Discussing his spell, Aakash expressed satisfaction. “I was happy. When you’re not playing regularly in the IPL, you have to keep pushing yourself. Throughout the season and off-season, I worked hard, practiced, and focused on what was within my control. Thankfully, my practice paid off in the match. I was trying to bowl according to the needs of the wicket and the weaknesses of the batsman. In the IPL, you can’t play every game with the same plan because teams study you quickly.”
He concluded, “We knew from the previous game how they dominated and where their weaknesses were, so my aim was to blend my style with those areas and work accordingly. That was the plan, and thankfully, it worked.”
Aakash Maharaj Singh took the wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, and Urvil Patel in his first match of the season.
