Hyderabad, May 16: The Telangana Congress has called for a careful approach regarding the Special Intensive Review (SIR) process. This request comes in light of a recent government change in West Bengal attributed to the SIR. Telangana Congress President Mahesh Kumar Goud met with the state’s Chief Electoral Officer, C. Sudarshan Reddy, on Friday to present a memorandum urging that the SIR be conducted fairly and without haste.
Goud later informed the media that the government change in West Bengal was due to the SIR process. He noted that the party expected to win the elections faced defeat because of this review. With no elections scheduled in Telangana for the next two years, he emphasized that there is no need to rush the SIR process. He suggested that it should be completed over the next eighteen months.
Goud pointed out that a census is currently underway. He expressed concern that conducting the SIR alongside the census would put additional pressure on staff. He also requested an extension of the response period for any notices issued under the SIR to three months. Furthermore, he recommended that booth-level officers should visit each household three to four times for verification.
The delegation included Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, MP Anil Kumar Yadav, and Chamalakiran Kumar Reddy. The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee highlighted in their memorandum that SIR processes conducted carelessly just before elections in several states have led to confusion, anxiety, and distrust among citizens. They provided multiple suggestions to ensure that the process in Telangana is conducted in a fair, transparent, and neutral manner.
