China Advocates for Open Dialogue on Iran Situation

Beijing, May 16: The spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry stated during a press conference that discussions regarding the Iran issue may or may not take place at the upcoming China-U.S. summit. Recently, a ceasefire was established between the United States and Iran, marking the beginning of dialogue aimed at finding a resolution, which has been welcomed by regional nations and the international community.

The spokesperson emphasized that China firmly believes dialogue and negotiation are the correct paths forward, asserting that there is no future in military solutions. Once the doors to dialogue are opened, they should not be closed again.

He noted that this conflict could have been avoided and that there is no need for it to continue. Finding a swift resolution is in the best interest of both the U.S. and Iran, as well as the entire region and the world. He highlighted the necessity of three key steps: maintaining the direction of peace, reopening maritime routes immediately, and ensuring the stability of global supply chains, alongside achieving a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire.

Furthermore, the spokesperson mentioned that since the onset of the conflict, China has consistently worked towards peace. Chinese President Xi Jinping has proposed a four-point plan for Middle East peace, and a five-point peace initiative has been introduced by China and Pakistan. China will collaborate with the international community to promote dialogue and play a constructive role in achieving lasting peace in the Middle East.
