New Chandigarh, May 28: In a thrilling eliminator match of IPL 2026, Rajasthan Royals (RR) triumphed over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 47 runs. This match set a new record for the most sixes in an IPL playoff, with a total of 26 sixes hit by both teams.
Previously, the record was held by the 2025 eliminator match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans, where 25 sixes were hit. On Wednesday, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, RR’s batsmen alone smashed 17 sixes, with Vaibhav Suryavanshi contributing an impressive 12 of them. SRH managed to hit 9 sixes during the match.
Batting first after losing the toss, Rajasthan Royals had a fantastic start. Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal formed a remarkable partnership, scoring 125 runs for the first wicket in just 48 balls. Yashasvi scored 29 runs off 29 balls, while Vaibhav played a blistering innings of 97 runs off just 29 balls, hitting 5 fours and 12 sixes. Dhruv Jurel added 50 runs from 21 balls, including 5 fours and 3 sixes. Captain Riyan Parag scored 26 runs off 12 balls, and Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten with 12 runs from 9 balls.
Chasing a target of 244 runs, the entire SRH team was bowled out for 196 runs. Abhishek Sharma went out without scoring, and Travis Head fell for 17 runs to Jofra Archer. Ishan Kishan scored 33 runs off 11 balls but could not capitalize on his good start.
Henrik Klaasen struggled with the bat, scoring only 18 runs off 10 balls. Nitish Kumar Reddy was the top scorer for SRH with 38 runs, while Sahil Arora contributed 35 runs. In the final overs, Shivang Kumar added 27 runs. Jofra Archer was the standout bowler for RR, taking 3 wickets, while Nandre Burger, Sushant Mishra, and Ravindra Jadeja each claimed 2 wickets.
