Bengaluru, May 31: Karnataka’s outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah congratulated DK Shivakumar on his unanimous selection as the leader of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) for the Chief Minister position. He expressed confidence in Shivakumar’s ability to lead both the state and the party during challenging times.
In his message to Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah highlighted his colleague’s “indomitable energy, organizational skills, and unwavering loyalty to the Congress Party.” He expressed hope that these qualities would be utilized for the welfare of the people of Karnataka.
Siddaramaiah noted that Karnataka is not only a leading state in terms of per capita income but has also emerged as a model for equitable distribution of wealth, power, and opportunities. He proudly mentioned that every initiative launched in the state is being adopted and implemented by other states.
Reflecting on his tenure, Siddaramaiah stated he is proud to have served as the Chief Minister for eight years, contributing to making Karnataka a prosperous, self-reliant, and dignified state. He emphasized that the responsibility of continuing this developmental journey now rests on Shivakumar’s shoulders. “I believe you possess the necessary commitment, capability, and vision to accomplish this task,” he said.
Siddaramaiah pointed out that people across the country are facing economic insecurity and uncertainty about the future. He urged Shivakumar to instill confidence among the populace through effective governance and to keep the state on the path of development.
He stressed that restoring both Karnataka’s growth and the Congress Party’s former glory is the responsibility of all party members. Siddaramaiah expressed hope that Shivakumar’s leadership would help overcome challenges and strengthen the party’s position.
He also voiced concerns about attempts to divide the nation along caste and religious lines, questioning the Constitution and suppressing dissent. He remarked that the India built on the sacrifices of Congress leaders is being fragmented in the name of caste and religion, while the Constitution itself is being questioned. He added that those who challenge power are being suppressed, and there are attempts to glorify those who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi.
Calling for a new ideological struggle, Siddaramaiah urged that the Congress, founded on constitutional values of equality, harmony, social justice, and secularism, must be strengthened from the grassroots level.
