
Tirunelveli, May 31: In Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli, police have apprehended a notorious criminal following a dramatic encounter. The suspect was injured by police gunfire and has since been hospitalized. Additionally, one police officer sustained injuries during the incident.
Authorities reported that the criminal was wanted in connection with a series of attacks in the Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts, where he had been evading capture. A special police team was formed to investigate these cases. Acting on a tip-off, the Tirunelveli police successfully arrested the suspect.
The criminal, identified as Ayyappan, hails from Nettur in Tenkasi district. He was hiding in the Arasangulam area near North Ariyanayagipuram. During the police operation to apprehend him, he allegedly attempted to attack officers with a weapon. In self-defense, the police fired shots, resulting in the suspect being injured.
He was promptly rescued and admitted to Cheranmahadevi Government Hospital for treatment. Upon receiving news of the incident, Tirunelveli District Superintendent of Police V. Prasanna Kumar arrived at the hospital to assess the situation. Subsequently, both the injured suspect and the wounded police officer were transferred to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
Officials confirmed that Ayyappan is a ‘history-sheeter’ with a pending murder case registered at the Alangulam police station. The police are currently engaged in further investigations related to this case.
