
Ghaziabad, May 31: The main accused in the murder of 17-year-old Surya Pratap Chauhan was killed in a police encounter late Saturday night in the Khoda area of Ghaziabad. Asad, who had been on the run, was shot during a joint operation by the Khoda police and Indirapuram police. He was a wanted criminal with a bounty of ₹50,000 on his head.
Asad was injured in the police’s retaliatory fire and was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead by doctors. During the encounter, one police officer was also injured by gunfire and is currently receiving treatment.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (City/Trans Hindon) Dhaval Jaiswal reported that on May 28, Asad and his accomplices attacked Surya with a knife. Surya was severely injured and later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
The incident sparked tension and outrage in the area, leading local residents and various Hindu organizations to protest for the immediate arrest of the accused. Five individuals were named in the case. Following the incident, police arrested three suspects, while the main accused, Asad, remained at large. Multiple police teams were formed to capture him, and a reward was announced for information leading to his arrest.
According to DCP Dhaval Jaiswal, police received a tip-off that Asad was planning to flee the area with some associates after collecting money. Acting on this information, police set up barricades and conducted an intensive checking operation. During this operation, Asad was spotted riding a motorcycle with an accomplice. When police attempted to stop them, Asad opened fire on the police team.
In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, Asad was critically injured. His accomplice managed to escape, and police are currently searching for him. Asad was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
